Germany ‘confident’ about Greek austerity package

Germany?s finance minister has warned that Greece will not receive its next tranche of international aid unless its parliament passes a new austerity package next week.

Wolfgang Schaeuble said in comments published Sunday that he is ?confident? that Athens would be able to pass the next raft of spending cuts and tax hikes.

At the same time, he warned that if the package fails to pass, ?the stability of the entire eurozone would be in danger.? Greek lawmakers will vote next week on a 28 billion euro ($39.8 billion) midterm austerity plan and an implementation law.

Schaeuble also told the Bild am Sonntag weekly he would ?like to see the opposition in Greece support the government, as we saw in Portugal and Ireland.? [AP]
