Canadian Green Party leader to visit controversial mining project in Halkidiki
The leader of Canada’s Green Party, Elizabeth May, was on Wednesday scheduled to visit the premises of a controversial mining project run by Hellas Gold, which is owned by the Vancouver-based Eldorado Gold Corporation, near the village of Skouries in Halkidiki, northern Greece.
May was invited to Greece by the Ecologist Greens, who have expressed concerns about the environmental repercussions of the mining project, which has divided locals.
