GENOP suspends strike action

Electricity supply across the country was expected to return to normal on Thursday, following a decision by the Public Power Corporation workers? union, GENOP, to suspend strike actions that have plunged many parts of the country in darkness over the past few days, late on Wednesday.

The workers? union is protesting the government?s decision to sell a stake of the electricity company as part of a privatization drive foreseen in the second bailout agreement with its creditors.

The union, however, said that it will be taking legal action against the government and PPC, arguing that the company has taken control of assets belonging to its pension fund.
