EOKA veterans set to fule suit against Britain for 1950s alleged torture

Veterans of EOKA, a Greek-Cypriot movement that fought against British colonial rule on the island in the late 1950s, plan to sue the British government, according to reports.

Reports said 70 veterans are seeking compensation from the UK over claims that they were subjected to abuse and mistreatment during the fight between 1955 and 1959.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague last week said that Kenyans tortured by British colonial forces during the Mau Mau uprising will receive payouts totalling nearly 24 million euros.
