Finance minister to discuss measures with archbishop
Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos has asked for a meeting with the head of the Church of Greece, Archbishop Ieronymos, to discuss the details of the medium-term fiscal plan passed by Parliament this week.
Venizelos is expected to explain which of the measures will affect the Church.
A freeze on future pay rises in the civil service and on public sector hirings will also apply to the Church, as priest?s salaries are paid from state coffers.
The Church has also expressed concern about whether the program to sell state assets will lead to property it owns being leased or sold to private investors.
