First summer heat wave set to strike
Hot and humid weather is expected over the next few days, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, with temperatures reaching as high as 39 degrees Celsius on mainland Greece and in western and southern parts of the country on Sunday and Monday.
The heat will be tempered slightly by northerly winds that will reach up to 7 or 8 Beaufort in the Aegean and 5 Beaufort in other parts.
The Meteorological Service has forecast temperatures in Athens on Saturday to range from 20-35 degrees Celsius and in Thessaloniki from 20-34C. On the islands of the Cyclades and Crete, temperatures on Saturday will range from 21-31C.
The mercury will inch up further on Sunday and Monday, reaching 38-39 degrees in northern and western Greece.
