Ex Piraeus prefect to head food agency

Former Piraeus Prefect Yiannis Michas was on Monday appointed the new head of the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET), Greece?s food safety watchdog.

The previous president of EFET, Yiannis Nichas, resigned on Friday, citing personal reasons.

Michas served as Piraeus prefect from 2003 to 2010, during which the local authority developed a reputation for stringent food safety checks.
