Two MPs give up courtesy cars, bonus payments
Two lawmakers, Hara Kefalidou of PASOK and Kyriakos Mitsotakis of New Democracy, made it known on Tuesday to Parliament that they were giving up their right to have a courtesy car and asked for extra payments they receive for taking part in parliamentary committees to be paid into a solidarity fund used to help pay off Greece?s public debt.
Mitsotakis had proposed last month for the number of MPs to be reduced from 300 to 200 and for deputies to give up their pensions.
In his written statement, he said he was disappointed by the lack of response to his suggestion from his parliamentary colleagues.
