Policeman suspended over child porn

A 33-year-old police officer serving in Florina, northern Greece, was suspended on Friday after a raid on his home turned up a large quantity of photos and videos featuring children being sexually abused.

The officer, who was not named, is alleged to have traded in hardcore child pornography over the Internet, according to police authorities who have ordered an investigation into the case and are to determine whether the suspect operated as part of a ring.

Working with officers from Thessaloniki?s electronic crimes unit, police in Florina raided the suspect?s home and confiscated four computer hard drives and a lap top containing more than 2,500 photographs and videos of children being sexually exploited.

Police said the 33-year-old used a special computer program to trade the images over the Internet. Officers also confiscated two decoders that the suspect is alleged to have used in order to access a domestic cable television channel without paying the subscription fee.

The 33-year-old was to face a Florina prosecutor on Friday on charges of trading in child pornography and violating intellectual property laws.
