Ozone levels to remain high all week
The Environment Ministry issued a directive on Sunday for people with breathing or heart problems to exercise caution when going outdoors, as ground-level ozone levels, which were high on Sunday, are expected to remain elevated throughout the week as well.
The ministry suggested that parents discourage their children from strenuous outdoors activities, especially during hottest part of the day.
Ground-level ozone measurements on Sunday around Attica found levels as high as 249 mg/m3, in Thraco-macedones, northwest of Athens. According to the European Environment Agency, levels of 240 mg/m3 or above are considered to pose a health hazard.
