Conservation groups raise alert over dead sea turtle sightings

A dead Mediterranean sea turtle (Caretta carreta) found washed up at the port of Aghios Sotiras in the Amvrakikos Gulf, in western Greece, by a fisherman is the fourth to be found this month, according to local conservation groups.

It was unclear whether the adult turtle found yesterday died of natural causes or injuries.

Conservationists have appealed to fishermen and swimmers to report sightings of injured sea turtles immediately to coast guard authorities.
