Zacharo residents want mayor out

Fifteen residents of Zacharo, a town in the Peloponnese, have sent a written statement to their local regional authority informing of the intention to take legal action unless controversial Mayor Pantazis Chronopoulos is removed from his post.

Chronopoulos was found guilty five months ago of dereliction of duty.

The residents claim that by law, this should lead to the regional authority officially instructing Chronopoulos to step down but this has not happened yet.

Chronopoulos has had numerous disputes with residents in the past over his running of the municipality.
