Police avert suicide attempt

A 30-year-old man who had left a suicide note that was found by his parents was prevented from killing himself by police after they traced his mobile phone signal and found him on a beach in southeastern Attica early Sunday.

The 30-year-old?s father called the police on Saturday evening after finding the note at home. Officers from the electronic crimes squad were able to trace the man?s cell phone and patrol cars were dispatched to track him down.

Police said that it is the 98th time this year that they have saved someone who expressed an intention to commit suicide.

It was not clear why the 30-year-old had wanted to take his own life.
