Public sector workers offered up to five years’ unpaid leave

Civil servants will be allowed to take up to five years? unpaid leave rather than current two under proposals put forward by the Administrative Reform Ministry. The leave can be granted for ?serious personal reasons.?

Public sector employees will also be able to ask for their working hours to be reduced by 50 percent in return for the equivalent pay cut.

The ministry did not explain the reason behind its decision but it appears to suit the government?s plans to reduce the outlay on wages in the public sector.
