Ioannina academics skipped on 700,000 euros in tax

The state was cheated out of some 700,000 euros in tax revenues by academics on the executive board at the University of Ioannina in northeastern Greece who were not declaring income they received from a so-called ?special account? that was administered by the institution, the head of the financial crimes squad?s (SDOE) audit planning department Nikos Lekkas told Skai TV on Wednesday.

The tax official said that the academics who had evaded paying tax would have to start paying installments on a fine within the next month.

SDOE said earlier this week that it would extend checks to other universities.
