Bike thefts rise in Thessaloniki

Hundreds of motorcycles, scooters and bicycles were stolen in the region of Thessaloniki within the first six months of 2011, according to a statement posted on Saturday on the Thessaloniki Police?s website, which said that it had received reports of thefts of just under 700 two-wheeled vehicles.

The issue has been given some publicity recently by the BikeRespect cyclists? group, which has said that some 1,500 bicycles have been stolen in Thessaloniki in the past two years.
