Taxi drivers brace for action
The head of the SATA taxi owners? union, Thymios Lyberopoulos, on Wednesday accused Transport Minister Yiannis Ragousis of a ?scandalous misinterpretation? of a ruling by the Council of State this week on the liberalization of closed professions. Lyberopoulos suggested that Ragousis had ?channelled information? via the media to defend his plans for a total deregulation of the taxi sector.
The unionist made the comments after meeting with opposition New Democracy officials. He said cabbies would wait to see the final wording of the government?s bill before deciding whether to strike, as they did earlier this summer.
