Newspaper fails to secure loan, putting future in doubt

Employees at Eleftherotypia newspaper are due to meet on Wednesday to discuss their future after being informed Tuesday that the daily?s management had failed to secure an 8-million-euro loan from Alpha Bank.

The debt-ridden newspaper, in print since 1975, had been in talks with lenders over the last few months to secure funding to keep the publication in print.

Publisher Mania Tegopoulou did not make any public comments on Eleftherotypia?s future.
