UN urges leaders to make deal to reunify Cyprus
The UN Security Council is urging Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders to demonstrate «the necessary political will» to reunify Cyprus after 37 years.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s special adviser, Alexander Downer, told reporters after briefing the council Friday that «there are still difficult issues to be resolved.”
Ban said after meeting Sunday and Monday with Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu that he expects a deal in January.
