Papademos calls for ‘unity, understanding and prudence’

Implementation of the terms of a European debt deal hammered out during a summit in Brussels on October 26-27 is key priority of Greece’s interim administration, incoming prime minister Lucas Papademos said Thursday.

?Greece is at the crossroads,? the former ECB official told journalists outside the Presidential Palace, calling for ?unity, understanding and wisdom … to deal with the problems in the best possible manner.?

Papademos, who was picked for the post following marathon negotiations between Greece’s political leaders over the past four days, will be sworn in on Friday at 2 a.m.

?It is a great honor,? he said of Thursday’s decision. ?But the responsibility is greater.?
