Two arrests over dues to state

A 59-year-old businessman who was arrested on Saturday over large debts to the state has been bailed after facing a magistrate. The Athens-based entrepreneur is accused of not having paid 1.48 million euros in taxes.

He was arrested by officers from the financial crimes squad and the police. He has been barred from leaving the country pending his trial.

In Thessaloniki, a 55-year-old civil engineer was arrested for failing to pay 92,507 euros in value added tax earlier this year. In both cases, the suspects have been charged with felonies.
