Two in 10 women have a Pap test

Only two in 10 Greek women regularly have a Pap test, or cervical smear, according to officials at the Health Ministry who launched an awareness scheme over the summer to encourage women to change their behavior and incorporate the test into their regular health checkups.

The scheme — launched as a pilot program in 50 hospitals and health centers across the country — led to a 60 percent increase in women undergoing the test over the summer, according to ministry officials who are now seeking to extend to the program in cooperation with municipal authorities and health centers across the country.
