Bistis resigns from PASOK’s national council

PASOK politician Nikos Bistis on Monday resigned from the party’s national council.

Bistis, a former communist who went on to serve as deputy interior minister in the reformist administration of Costas Simitis, is said to be in talks with the moderate Democratic Left party, led by Fotis Kouvelis.

The party is not involved in Greece’s crisis coalition government.

Bistis was on Monday expected to sent a letter to PASOK chief George Papandreou, explaining the reasons for his departure.
