Father, son murder linked to gang

The brutal killing of a 35-year-old Albanian man and his 2-year-old son in the Peloponnese less that a month ago has been attributed to a Greek and Albanian criminal gang active in the area, according to an ongoing police investigation.

The bodies of the man and the toddler were found in a car in a ditch in Kalamata in early December bearing gunshot wounds.

Investigators believe the murder to be linked to a gang of Greeks and Albanians who run drug trafficking and extortion rackets in the broader Messinia region.

One person has been arrested in Athens and another six in Kalamata so far as part of the investigation, which also includes searches of the homes of numerous suspects, in which police have found guns, drugs and cash.
