Ex-minister charged after road rage incident

Former Deputy Development Minister Kimon Koulouris was detained late on Saturday after allegedly driving his car at a policeman during a traffic inspection.

Koulouris, 71, had been pulled over after reportedly running four red lights in the central Athens district of Kolonaki.

He is then said to have hit the officer with his vehicle, leaving the policeman with minor injuries. On Sunday the injured officer reportedly asked for criminal charges to be brought against the MP, who has been an independent since 2007 when he was ousted from socialist PASOK.

Koulouris, who originally only faced charges of violating the highway code, told Skai that he ?probably? ran a red light but denied driving his car at the officer.
