Cleric, 83, was suffocated
An 83-year-old priest was found dead in his home on Friday morning in the neighborhood of Aghios Panteleimonas near central Athens in what police are treating as a homicide.
The cleric, who was gagged, is believed to have died of asphyxiation. Officers found no signs of forced entry, and believe that the priest knew his assailant, or assailants, who may have borne a grudge against him.
Separately, an 86-year-old woman was found dead yesterday at her home in Epitalio near Pyrgos in the Peloponnese. Police said she had been struck several times with a blunt object in an apparent robbery.
