Officials warn of Evros flooding

Local officials in the northeastern region of Evros wrote to Infrastructure Minister Makis Voridis on Monday to ask him to set up a special task force to deal with the management of the Evros River, which flooded over the weekend.

The unit was meant to have been set up as a result of the changes to municipalities and prefectures brought about by the Kallikratis scheme in 2010 but Evros officials say that the task force was never put into operation.

The local politicians also held talks with Bulgarian officials to ask for better management of the part of the river that flows through the neighboring country.
