Ministry investigates homelessness

The Health Ministry is collecting date on homeless people in Greece with a view to drawing up a law that will set the parameters for state aid to be handed out, MPs were told on Wednesday.

In response to a written question, Deputy Health Minister Markos Bolaris said that the last research conducted by authorities in 2009 found that there were at least 21,126 homeless people in Greece. However, a number of local authorities had not collected data.

Bolaris said that homelessness has risen since then but that no exact figures are available yet.
