Policeman’s gun recovered

Police late on Wednesday recovered the gun of a member of the anti-terror squad that had been taken off him during clashes with anti-austerity protesters in Syntagma Square on Tuesday.

The anti-terror officer was attacked by a group of around 30 protesters during a march in front of Parliament on Tuesday, sustaining multiple injuries and losing his department-issue firearm in the process.

On Wednesday, however, the gun was discovered by police officers in an abandoned building in the central Athenian neighborhood of Exarchia, following a tip-off from a suspect that had been arrested in connection with Tuesday’s clashes.
