Fashion designer among several arrested for tax evasion

The owner of a famous Greek fashion house was arrested on Thursday for the second time on charges of owing some 7.5 million euros in unpaid taxes.

Also Thursday, the former chairman of Iraklis soccer club was detained for withholding 1 million euros in taxes.

In Thessaloniki two businessmen, aged 40 and 48, were detained for owing a total of 1 million euros to the state.

A 61-year-old entrepreneur in Pyrgos, in the Peloponnese, was arrested for debts of 308,843 euros.

In Veria, northern Greece, two co-owners of a lumberyard, aged 45 and 49, were arrested for a joint tax bill of 103,589 euros.

And in Ilioupoli, southeastern Athens, a 65-year-old businessman was arrested for owing 188,152 euros.
