Angelopoulos to be buried on Friday

Acclaimed filmmaker Theodoros Angelopoulos, who died in a road accident late on Tuesday at the age of 76, is to be buried on Friday at 4 p.m. at the capital?s First Cemetery.

The late director?s family requested that instead of wreaths those paying their respects could make donations to City Hall?s new center for the homeless and to Hamogelou Tou Paidio (Child?s Smile) charity.

Angelopoulos had been on location with his crew in Drapetsona, near Piraeus, when he was hit by an off-duty police officer driving a motorcycle. It was not clear whether all safety measures had been taken by the production company with regards to Tuesday night’s shoot. The director had been working on a film about the social impact of Greece?s economic crisis.
