Fashion designer’s tax trial delayed

The trial of fashion designer and businessman Lakis Gavalas has been delayed until February 9, it was reported on Friday.

An Athens court postponed his trial after Gavalas revealed that his company has filed for protection from its creditors under Article 99 of Greece?s bankruptcy law.

Gavalas was arrested this week for owing 7.6 million euros to the state. He had previously been arrested for owing 1.5 million euros in unpaid VAT bills.

Also on Friday, a 58-year-old businessman was arrested in the Athens suburb of Argyroupoli for debts to the state of 188,305 euros.

In Ilia, the Peloponnese, a 47-year-old entrepreneur was taken into custody for owing 316,000 euros.
