Orthodox Iraqi woman prays…

A Christian Orthodox Iraqi woman prays on Easter Sunday at the Greek Orthodox church of St George in Baghdad. Christians make up some 3 percent of Iraq’s population, and an estimated 140,000 are Greek Orthodox. A small number of Greeks also live in the Iraqi capital. Meanwhile, in Jerusalem, an Easter Saturday Resurrection service in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher proceeded peacefully despite intense wrangling between the Greek Patriarchate and Armenian church officials over the protocol. Fearing riots, Israeli authorities only allowed 6,000 worshipers into the church, which has a capacity of 10,000, while hundreds of police were posted in and around the church. Initially, police had said that in the absence of a compromise between the two churches, only a few hundred worshipers would be allowed to attend the ceremony.
