Migrants suffocated on truck

Three Afghans who were found dead on a roadside near the northwestern seaside resort of Parga on Tuesday are believed to have died of asphyxiation on a truck that had been destined to board a ferry to Italy from nearby Igoumenitsa.

The migrants, whose bodies were found on the side of the national highway that connects the northwestern port of Igoumenitsa to Preveza, are believed to have been abandoned by their would-be smugglers.

Authorities were seeking the smugglers, and other migrants who had been aboard the truck on Wednesday.
