Winds keep many ferries tied up

Gale-force winds kept most ferry boats tied up at the ports of Lavrio and Rafina in Attica, while the ferries for the eastern Aegean islands of Chios and Lesvos did not set sail on Thursday morning from Piraeus, where all other routes were serviced as scheduled.

The Piraeus Port Authority, however, said that the Piraeus-Chios-Lesvos ferry was scheduled to set sail after 10 a.m., along with the Rafina-Andros-Tinos-Myconos ferry from the eastern Attica port.

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service said that winds will ease later on Thursday, though temperatures will remain at low levels across the country, and especially in the west and north.
