Former OTE exec in Siemens probe bailed

A former OTE telecom executive was bailed on Friday after being questioned in connection to the alleged payment of bribes to the company by the Greek branch of electronics giant Siemens.

Panayiotis Vertis, a former employee in OTE?s international procurements department, faced questions in connection with a 400,000 Deutschmark deposit in a bank account he is alleged to have managed.

He denies the charge.

The money is alleged to have been paid as part of a deal for Siemens Hellas to be awarded the contract to digitalize OTE?s network.

Vertis posted 150,000 euros? bail and was released.
