UK tour operators slam ‘alarmist’ warning

British tour operators have reacted to a recent government recommendation that visitors to Greece register with the Foreign Office so they can be contacted in case of social turmoil in the country.

?To say… that Britons may be put at risk if the civil unrest in the country worsens is alarmist to say the least and very far from reality,? the UK Association of Independent Tour Operators said in a statement on Tuesday.

Foreign Secretary William Hague (photo) told British media earlier this week the Foreign Office had prepared contingency plans if British tourists were in jeopardy because of Greek unrest.
