Heavy snow traps motorists, passengers
Much of the northern prefecture of Grevena was declared to be in a state of emergency on Monday as heavy snowfall made road travel precarious and cut off dozens of villages.
Rescue workers were trying to reach at least 14 motorists and passengers reported to be trapped on snow-blocked roads in the areas of Karpenisi and Karditsa, central Greece.
Strong winds meant most passenger ferries remained in port.
