Less competition for university places this year

Senior high school students will have a two-in-three chance of securing a place at university when they take their end-of-year exams this summer as the number of candidates who have registered for the process has dropped to the lowest in several years.

The Education Ministry said that just 110,851 teenagers have made a bid for a university place, compared to 116,542 a year earlier, which was also much lower than in previous years.

The ministry said there would be some 75,000 places available.
