Power returning to Cyprus after blackout

Power was gradually being restored in Cyprus after a grid failure left most of the island without electricity, reports said on Wednesday.

Officials said the outage occurred after a unit at Dekelia power station, on the southeast coast of the island, broke down during the night.

Dekelia is now the main operational power plant in Cyprus after an explosion at a munitions dump knocked out the island?s biggest power station at Vasilikou (photo) last summer.
