Ministry cuts out loophole in illegal homes amnesty

Environment Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou on Thursday confirmed that only official documents, including aerial photographs, would be accepted in the amnesty process for illegal homes.

The country?s highest administrative court, the Council of State, ruled this week that personal documents proving the existence of a property and the time of its construction should not be accepted after it emerged that in several cases applicants were declaring homes that had not been built so they could pay a penalty and then construct the building afterward.
