Veteran MP Geitonas says will not run in coming elections

PASOK deputy Costas Geitonas on Monday said he would not run in the coming parliamentary elections.

In a statement Monday, the veteran socialist politician apologized to voters for suffering the consequences of the financial crisis.

?Political foot-dragging meant that Greece was not properly defended against the crisis,? the statement said.

Born in 1939, Geitonas was first elected deputy in 1989 before serving at various ministerial posts.

Elections are widely expected to take place on May 6.
