Crete police seize firecracker stash
Police in Hania, Crete, on Tuesday morning arrested a 50-year-old man in the town of Kisamos for illegally possessing and selling firecrackers.
A raid on a warehouse belonging to the suspect uncovered some 37,000 firecrackers of different types that he was planning to sell illegally in the runup to Greek Orthodox Easter.
It is customary in most parts of the country to set off firecrackers at midnight on Saturday to mark the resurrection of Christ, though uncontrolled use has led to numerous injuries in the past.
