Thousands to miss KTEL bus journeys due to drivers’ strike

Dozens of KTEL inter-city bus drivers blocked on Thursday morning the exit of the main Kifissos terminal in Athens as a part of a 24-hour strike to protest sackings.

It is estimated that some 15,000 people will not be able to travel today, a busy day for people leaving Athens for the Easter holidays, as a result of the action.

Drivers said that apart from the sackings of colleagues, they are also protesting KTEL bus owners? refusal to sign a new collective labor contract.

Owners claimed that they drive 90 percent of KTEL buses but drivers say this figure is closer to 60 percent, meaning the disruption will be bigger.
