Three people injured by illegal fireworks over holiday

Two brothers, aged 21 and 25, lost their fingers while trying to manufacture homemade fireworks in the small town of Milea, in western Mani, in the Peloponnese, it emerged on Saturday.

According to local police, the accident occured on Thursday when the brothers were preparing the traditional fireworks for Orthodox Easter celebrations.

The siblings were transferred from a hospital in Kalamata to the KAT hospital in Athens and are to be charged for illegally manufacturing fireworks.

On Monday, a 23-year-old man on the island of Leros, in the Dodecanese, suffered serious injuries to his right hand while trying to set off a homemade firebomb in his yard.

Police across the country confiscated thousands of illegal fireworks over the Easter weekend.
