Pyrros Dimas to head PASOK’s list of state deputies
PASOK announced on Tuesday that Olympic and world champion weightlifter Pyrros Dimas will head the party’s list of state deputies.
The list, which comprises candidates who are not elected directly but according to the percentage that their party gains in the polls, often include eminent personalities who are not career politicians.
Dimas, who was born in Albania to ethnic Greek parents, took the gold in Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000, as well as the bronze at the Athens Games in 2004. There has been speculation in the past that Dimas would run with the socialist party.
Elections are scheduled for May 6. Last week’s Public Issue poll for Kathimerini saw PASOK in second place at 14 percent.
