Media owner released
Media owner Giorgos Kouris was released Tuesday after being arrested on suspicion of not paying a large sum of value added tax. He is facing misdemeanor charges for owing the state up to 307,000 euros and was ordered to face a magistrate?s court on April 30.
Kouris was arrested on Tuesday morning following a request from financial affairs prosecutor Grigoris Peponis and was taken to Psychiko police station.
Speaking to a Skai TV reporter on Tuesday Kouris said that he had already reached an arrangement with tax authorities on March 30 regarding his VAT debt to begin paying in instalments. He added that the Greek state owes him 15 billion euros.
Kouris is a shareholder in Alter TV, which stopped broadcasting earlier this year while allegedly owing about 400 million euros. He also owns Avriani daily newspaper.
