Papandreou apologizes for negative impact of crisis
Former Prime Minister George Papandreou has apologized to Greeks suffering the effects of the economic crisis, which include spiralling unemployment and falling wages and pensions.
Speaking to the Peloponnisos newspaper, which is published in the region where he will stand for election on May 6, Papandreou said that Greeks were feeling the impact of years of mistakes.
?I would like to apologize on behalf of all the political world,? he said. ?We paid and are still paying for decades of mistakes. I could not put the unfair decisions that we had to take so the country would not collapse.
?I assure them with hand on heart that I did whatever was possible.?
Papandreou is to stand for election in Achaia, which his grandfather Georgios Papandreou also represented.
