A total of 26 people were arrested in Livadia, north of Attica, on Thursday night when members of the neofascist Chrysi Avgi clashed with extreme leftists, police said.
The Chrysi Avgi members were in the town center for an election rally when the fighting broke out.
?We arrested 13 people from each side and held them in custody until things calmed down and we could understand exactly what had happened,? a local policeman who wished to remain anonymous told Kathimerini. ?No charges were pressed so we let them all go at around midnight.?
Chrysi Avgi received just 0.29 percent of the vote at the 2009 parliamentary elections but polls have indicated that the far-right party will cross the 3 percent threshold to gain seats in Parliament at the May 6 elections.
