Ministry pays 10 million euros for rent

The Environment Ministry is housed in 28 buildings and for the 27 of them pays rent that amounts to 10 million euros, revealed Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Skai TV on Saturday.

The New Democracy deputy cited this as an example of state expenditure that could be cut in order to get the 11.6 billion euros that Greece?s creditors require for 2013 and 2014.

He added that the 100-million-euro budget of the Parliament can also be cut, with measures such as the reduction of the number of deputies from 300 to 200 through a constitutional amendment. An end to bogus pensions could also save the state some 500 million euros, said Mitsotakis.

?The first bill we should pass is the tax bill, but there should be offsets to cuts. We have had an internal devaluation, but there is no more scope for reductions to salaries and pensions. Let us find the actual hampering factors for the absence of investment,? suggested the ND deputy for greater Athens.
